The many lives of Ethel Smyth

Ethel Smyth was an intrepid musician, a staunch feminist, and one of only two women to have had an opera premiered at the Met! Join musicologist Kristi Brown-Montesano as she explores the lives and works of this late Romantic composer. Kristi’s podcast is inspired by James Blachly’s recent revival of Smyth’s oratorio The Prison, which won a 2021 Grammy Award for “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.” Look out for Blachly and his Experiential Orchestra on a Da Camera Society program soon!
